Steve is ordained and holds a doctorate in Pastoral Counseling. He served as senior pastor in four Midwestern churches as well as multimedia ministry, world missions, church planting and ministry to at-risk youth..
Brooke is ordained, is a Psychologist with a doctorate in Christian Counseling. She counsels survivors and trains counselors to deal with trauma from a biblical perspective. Steve and Brooke are both certified Christian Counselors. The couple spent 18 months ministering to survivors of GBV in 2014-2015.
Together Brooke and Steve have five grown children, twelve grandchildren and three (and counting) great-grand-kids. Their state-side home is in Independence, MO and they are available for ministry engagements in the USA.

Steve and Brooke Highlander have served in Papua New Guinea since 2014. In August of 2019 Brooke was diagnosed with cancer bringing them back to the U.S. for treatment. Although evangelism, discipleship and leadership training are key focuses of their ministry, the Highlanders are currently working with bible colleges in PNG with live, interactive online teaching. In addition to their work, they are in the process of establishing and funding the Mason and Virgene Hughes Scholarship Fund, named after the first Foursquare Missionaries to PNG. This scholarship is made available to young leaders for Bible College. Steve is in the process of developing a continuing education website for all of our South Pacific pastors and leaders, while Brooke, who has extensive experience in the filed of counseling, continues to work with Gender Based Violence (GBV). The Highlanders will continue to facilitate the Foursquare Missions Press printing project in the Highlands with plans to provide more live streaming, interactive training for pastors and leaders. In the short term, the Highlanders plan to travel to PNG a couple of times a year.
